We often are asked for skincare recommendations for transitioning to the winter season. 
 Is there is a need to and why?

The answer is YES, in order to protect your skin barrier!

In warmer weather, the skin is often oilier and humidity is higher, but winter is a time when every skin type requires a little more effort to stay on top of the chill factor.
Cold & dry winter air combined with dry indoor temperatures from heating takes its toll on our skin, zapping it of precious moisture.  Once this protective moisture barrier is compromised or weakened, the skin is prone to cracking, dryness and dehydration and eventually inflammation.  This is why if you use lightweight products in summer, they don't quite have enough 'oomph' to get your skin through winter!
So if you already have a drier or mature skin type, your skin will already be feeling the effects winter has on your skin.  If you have an oilier skin type, the dry winter air may not affect your skin that much, but the need to include some extra form of hydration is still worth consideration.


So what does your Winter Skincare look like?

DO: Fortify and protect your skin's natural barrier function against the drying, damaging & ageing effects of the cold with carefully selected products.  

DON'T: Still use your favourite lightweight skincare products UNLESS you supplement them with intense moisture rich ones.


We recommend your Winter skincare routine should include:

Cream Cleanser - gentle on the skin, with inbuilt moisture.  Swop out your gel/foaming cleanser unless you have oily skin.  If your skin is super dry, you can even use our Creme Cleanser without water!

Use a gentle AHA Exfoliant - for a glowing winter complexion, banish dry dull skin using an AHA exfoliant 2-3 times a week to gently dissolve the top layer of skin and wash it away.  Try to avoid granulated exfoliant scrubs that can be more unkind to dry winter skin.  Our Enzyme Perfect Peel Gel Mask is a wonderful winter skin brightener!

Invest in a hydrating Toner in the winter months, that is somewhat less astringent and offers more skin conditioning and moisture benefits with ingredients such as Floral Waters, Hyaluronic Acid, Olive Squalane, Oat Extract & Beet Sugar Extract, vitamins & antioxidants.  

If you not using a moisture boosting Serum now - then you need to, as our face can lose up to 25% moisture in winter!  Serums help to hold moisture in the skin, longer than any face cream can!  This extra barrier protection gives your skin a powerful advantage against the drying effects of winter air. 

Switch to a medium to rich Face Cream that contains fatty acids (like Evening Primrose, Rosehip, Sea Buckthorn), and moisture champions such as Liposomes, Vitamin C & Hyaluronic Acid, that help deliver hydration to the deeper layers of the skin, while reinforcing the skin's natural lipid barriers to seal in moisture.

Not using an Eye Cream?
Like serums, Eye Creams enhance your winter beauty nourishment, protecting against fine lines and dehydration that become a battle when the cold sets in.

For many of us, winter brings sudden dryness and painful peeling and cracking to our lips. Since our lips have no oil glands, they cannot replenish their own moisture. Avoid cheap lip balms made from mineral oil, these will cause even more dryness. So love your lips with our fantastic natural lip balms, several times a day!  

And remember to stock up on good quality moisturisers for your hands and body too, as protecting winter skin isn't just for your face!
